The Witch

She was the witch of the Buttermill Woods, and she fed on the blood of innocent hearts.

She lures young travellers into her house, whoever they are, and once they are wholly in her power, she takes the heart from the chest with her claws and drinks it, squeezing out the taste of trust and the pain of the innocent. That is what has kept her so young, for so long.

But she does not stop there. She puts the heart back, keeps the traveller alive, and takes it out again — again and again — until the body has nothing left to give. Only then does she feed on the flesh of the heart.

She is beautiful. Her beauty comes from the pain of her captives.

The House

A walled haveli, a yard, a gate that shuts behind you. One way out, and it is not the one you came in by.

I

She cannot die

You cannot fight her and you cannot lose her. She listens, she remembers where you hid, and she is patient.

II

Death is a door

No reload screen. When she catches you, she puts you back — and the house is not quite as you left it.

III

Indo-gothic dread

Jali screens, cusped arches, candlelit zenanas and a mirror hall. A mansion built from marigold, lime and rot.

IV

A hidden tunnel

Somewhere beneath the haveli, a passage leads to the swamp. Finding it is the whole game.
